MHC: Wokring towards "Customer for Life"
Metro Home City, as it is now known since the revamp on July 1, 2010, is all about expanding and satisfied client service delivery. The Carrim brothers started this family business in 1959 when it was known as Metro Fabrics, in Church Street, opposite the State Theatre. When the Group Areas Act came into play, they were evicted from the premises and then moved to the corner of Du Toit and Schoeman streets. Here they continued to trade as Metro Home Fabrics until 1986 when they underwent a revamp and the store became known as Metro Home Centre. This is where they introduced appliances and furniture departments to the existing fabric department. Because of the amazing demand from customers for bigger and better range of products, the directors decided in August 1996 to move to the present premises on the corner of Vermeulen and Du Toit streets where they traded as Metro Home Centre (head offi ce) until the revamp in July 2010, when it became known as the present Metro Home City. The directors, Messrs Iqbal, Shahin, Adam and Ozayr Carrim collectively have 110 years experience in the retail industry.
